Music to the rescue

Writing block happened off! I have three unfinished drafts from the last time I posted. As always music comes to my rescue(I have realised that it is somewhat of an obsession with me now. I have withdrawal symptoms when my Ipod runs out of battery!) I present you with my latest obsessions :

  • Engirindu Vandayada – 5 Star – This just happened to play on my Ipod, and I have been obsessing ever since. The last time I heard this song this often was probably when I was in second year in college and Mahathi would tell me her story about our “5 Star” house! The song itself is lovely, fantastic female vocals, melody lines and rhythm. I love the charanam bit when she sings ” Vanavilai aanum, Vanna meenai pennum
  • RagaSaga– VS Narasimhan – Remember this ? They came up with a new album that is absolutely fantastic! I just love the sound of the violins, and the cello harmonies..Divine! Sudhamayi is blissful Amritavarshini, the Gowlai is eerily fantastic, Chinnanchiru kiliye is moving as usual. But my pick of the album is the Shri Subrahmanya Namaste..Kambodhi is one of the most uplifting ragas I have ever heard! Bliss..You can hear clips and download the album here.
  • Mayamma-Ahiri-Syama Shastri – This song moves me to tears all the time! Ahiri is so melancholic and yet so beautiful! I can listen to this song endlessly for hours. I even love the possibility of Ahiri as a name! This  is one of my most favorite songs ever. TM Krishna sings this a LOT! I have about 20 full concerts of TMK (see how I subtly showed off 😛 ) and I have close to 5 versions of this song. There’s one on youtube too.
  • Boy with a Coin – Iron and Wine – Art introduced me to this song. I love the guitar chord and the beats. Fantastic video too. I can sit and watch the flamenco dancers twirl all day!

Hopefully I will post more..Till then, enjoy the music!

P.S – Happy Birthday to Madi who turned 18 today! I can’t believe my sister is 18! I did the math and it is freaking me out now!
