Fried Chicken!

Vanakkam to all from the land of fried chicken, the derby and pretty much nothing else! It seems to have become a habit now- abstinence followed by a brief resurfacing to just do an update. I promise you, not any more. I am stuck in a vetti (so far) lab where most sites seem to be blocked  and I have no choice but to come over here and pour my vetti heart out. Poor you!

The rest of my margazhi was fine. After all the self indulgent moping, I ended up spending Christmas at Pack’s house doing exactly what we did Fall break ’07. Only this time Spidey Monopoly was replaced by Settlers of Catan and Scotland Yard. Nothing changed. Pack won 99% of the time, letting me and RT sneak a couple of wins in between! Poor G1 didn’t win any :P It was a period of internet and yes, even music detox (I needed it, it was getting out of hand), lots of bumming around and just a wonderful relaxing break! The last week of the year, I ran around like a headless chicken, buying a car, finding an apartment online, paying bills, ending contracts and then my maiden trip on the interstate across the border to my new home. Suddenly I was in a strange house, in a strange city, owning and driving a car, showing up to work in business casual attire (I have to figure out what to do with all my grad school pichakari clothes!) – I didn’t recognise my life anymore. It was incredibly overwhelming and I did spend a few nights thalai anai ninaithu-fying.  I cheered up alright in time and went exploring the malls and sights of the city. I actually love driving and sometimes just keep driving on cos the shown on NPR is very riveting (anybody else do that?). I even enjoyed my first meal alone ever at a restaurant. The incredulous look on the maitre d’s (I have always wanted to use that word!) face when I said table for one was worth it all. I am yet to enjoy the thrills of  a movie by myself. I am just too chicken to go watch Black Swan alone - is it really that scary?

My favorite past-time now is furniture porn. I randomly drive to the the artsy furniture -from all over the world-type places and then build my rooms in my head. Then I go to Target or the budget furniture stores and buy the cheap affordable stuff. My graduate school sense of economy still survives and I am not complaining. Especially since I carry the genes of two extremely generous and spend-thrifty people! I am totally into home decor now, and promise you a house tour once I am completely done collecting my “pieces” of furniture :)

I joined a hot yoga studio, and love it! It feels so much like home in the studio with the over 100 F temperatures and 90+ humidity. I have finally found a form of exercise I actually enjoy. If I find people to play racket sports with, my cup will  filleth!

I re-read the entire HP series , the Anne of Green Gables series and a lot of my favorite Georgette Heyers over the last month on my new Kindle (Thank you S!). I love that most of my favorite classics are available for free on Gutenberg and have been downloading and reading and reliving. It is time though that I got back to my piling to-read list.

I was kind of saving the best update for the last. I found a paatu teacher :) My previous music teacher from Madras now lives in NY and agreed to do Skype lessons with me. Waiting for my internet installation and then music will reverberate on the banks of the Ohio river!

What more can a girl ask for right?
